Description:

Yourself In Peace was started in Los Angeles by Westley Ulit (Basic Blink) (Drums/Synth/Vocals) and Justin Corral (Lead Vocals/Guitar) in 2012, after a hazy night of spontaneous jamming involving a MPC 2500 and Yamaha acoustic guitar. Their cryptic, pop music infuses electronic rhythms and beats with shoegaze, lo-fi, and experimental sonic textures. Essentially, they make beats and whine over them.

About:

Before this project came to fruition the duo started out as friends in High School taking an Art 2 class together. Their relationship started through a decrepit guitar in the back of an art class storage room. After finishing assignments early, they would spend countless hours jamming and sharing bands and rappers they loved. The two remained close after graduating. After high school the duo partook in solo musical ventures but still remained close. It was only right that these two were to eventually make this music project come alive.

Sounds - Uptempo Shifts

I've been researching, seeing and hearing alot of new uptempo songs emerging to the electronic music scene. The more popular genres include Moombahton (now associating itself with a variety of subgenres of electronic music - moombacore, soul, dancehall, etc.) and revamped styles of house from outside of the US (eg. labels like Sound Pellegrino, Marble, and Night Slugs). I've also been hearing new sounds coming from Nadus and DJ Sliink (Brick Bandits) - the progression of their styles of Jersey Club has really evolved into something else. If you explore these people you will definitely find a difference in how they sound. From the percussions to the synths, the new electronic producers of today will always want to create new ways of creating music.

In my perspective, these new styles of music intend to refresh the current popular music - and in general should influence musicians overall. For example, DJs of today to become better curators of sets ( for instance, mixing personal favorite tracks with stuff that works). The mindset of today is also more of 'bringing back creativity' rather than owing some kind of payback to 'staying the way it should be'. This is because of the ever so changing indie music business model; making something new and compelling will eventually be heard by people that care (internet).

The great thing about this notion of thinking is that there is still a reason to keep collecting new music. Even if there are alot of artists pumping out massive amounts of tunes, this enables everyone to choose and filter what they want to hear. As goes for the artists that make the music, they shouldn't be afraid to create something that they truly desire, after all it's all about the love of creating the music. This gives new-age DJs the tools to create sets around sounds that are good to them - unlike before when it was pretty hard to explore everything at once.

This past weekend was quite fun. For me at least, it's all about having a good time with good company. DJing for the High Point this past Friday was dope (having to see everyone in good spirits and having a set that was pure free format, I got to play songs that I truly agree on 100 percent).

High Point has and will be one of the more fun parties to go to if you're located in Southern California - The line up of DJs make sure you will have an interesting selection of music (from stuff you haven't heard to music that has real appeal). So make sure if you're free, head over to the High Point when it comes back next month!

Update: January 2012:

Happy New Year! Welcome back. After a long 2011 Q4 with all the cool releases that have been put up on here (such as: Basic Blink : Render , Selections 2 , and finishing with Funktionology #3 ) ; I've decided to keep the ball rolling for 2012 Q1 and will be releasing a new beat EP on here by February. Bionic Tempo will feature just a few songs just to get the year started. I am also looking forward to making more collaborative projects and hopefully landing more events to cater to everyone who is interested.

December 2011 Update

I postponed the Spec Dub release for December 25. The reason for this is because I'd like for Render to settle in and make sure there is room for the Funktionology release and event (December 9 and December 16)

Jimbo Jenkins and I have been working on the new Funktionology release and it will be posted up on a label site. The Funktionology event is going down on the 16th of December, so if you are in the Southern California area, come through (Event location and address To Be Announced).

We look forward to posting up all the material before 2012, and I will be open for booking again in January 2012.

Good Evening, where ever you are. Basic Blink here just to post to let you know that mix.exe will be uploading some of the newer material I've been working on since May. First, Selections #2 will be released tomorrow - it's going to be up at 12PM (PST) here on mixdotexe.com. Second, my upcoming beat album 'Render', is done and will be ready for release by mid-November As of recently, I've decided to use the name 'Spec-Dub' as an aka - just to add a little bit more of a mix up.

In other news, Jimbo Jenkins and I have started to collaborate again on Funktionology. It's been a while since we worked on another issue, so we're linking up again to bring a third issue and more to come. We are also planning a Funktionology event in LA in the near future. I'll keep you updated on whats going down.

Munchi posted the original production a little while back. The original 'Nighttime' is a groovy r&b track unexpected out of Munchi since he is known for his moombahton and various productions in electronic dance. More importantly for the remix I wanted to create the same moody type feel but give it a twist with a higher bpm (from 90 ish bpm to 124) along with some refreshed synths just to ride along with the melody. Lately i've been hooked on housey type beats - but there will be more tracks coming along the way with slower bpms. Enjoy.

Mix Dot Update - August 4

Its been a couple weeks now since I released Mix Dot Exe Selections on the site. The project was much fun to work on and it was a new refreshing way of doing things. As for Mix Dot Exe not much has been changing lately but I am still here and still on the drawing board thinking of new things to do. I'm looking at a late august - early september mix release, with some tracks that i've been making lately. I'll let you know and put it up as soon as possible.

I also will start doing live streams again and hopefully be able to record a solid podcast every week. I just need to set up somewhere stable for now.
